This past weekend we had a District Conference for our branches in Newfoundland. St. Johns and Bay Roberts Branches met in St. Johns with Corner Brook and Grand Falls Skypeing in from Corner Brook. The conference was uplifting, and visiting with the Saints in Newfoundland was inspirational. So many good strong people! We heard lots of great stories and saw a bit of beautiful scenery.
As is the tradition, we had a potluck dinner and talent show. Following the talent show, we had a Screeching In Ceremony. A screeching in is where the screechees are required to drink/eat a variety of interesting foods including caeplins (small whole dried fish (head and eyeballs intact), cod liver oil, serenity syrup, molasses candy, etc. The end initiation is kissing a cod. Screechees are then dubbed Honorary Newfoundlanders.
Pres. Pratt and I chickened out, but we had 6 missionaries take the plunge. All were successful.
